A third-generation farmer, Greg Sears grows field peas, canola, malt barley and spring wheat on 2,500 acres with his wife Melise and their two daughters near Sexsmith, Alberta. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering at the University of Alberta, Greg worked as an engineer in the petroleum industry for 20 years while also farming part-time with his parents. Since his parents’ retirement in 2010, Greg has taken up farming as his full-time profession. 

Greg has a passion for contributing to Canada’s crop sector leadership and joined the Alberta Canola Producers Commission board in 2012 where he served as Region 2 director for six years, including two years as board chair. Currently, Greg holds the positions of Region 5 director and second vice-chair for the Alberta Wheat Commission concurrent to his role as a member of the County of Grande Prairie Ag Services board. Of the many aspects that are critical to progressing Canada’s agriculture and crop industry, Greg greatly enjoys contributing on the fronts of policy, grower engagement, governance and marketing.
