Building Relationships with Moroccan Customers

Located in the largest importing region for CWAD, Morocco is a consistent buyer of high-quality Canadian durum. In fact, over the last five years, Canada was the dominant supplier of durum wheat to Morocco, holding an average market share of 93 percent.

Used in the production of couscous, pasta, and bread, Moroccan wheat is never used at 100 percent and is instead blended with imported wheat at various levels. This is why support from Cereals Canada is vital and always appreciated.

Cereals Canada visited customers in Morocco as part of the 2023 New Wheat Crop Trade and Technical Mission. To help build the relationship, Cereals Canada hosted a technical exchange with buyers from Morocco at our Winnipeg facilities in late spring. From May 26 to June 1, participants received hands-on training, information about Canadian durum, and the opportunity to meet with members of the Canadian grains value chain.

In a letter to Cereals Canada, the President of the National Federation of Milling in Morocco, Mr. Moulay Abdelkader Alaoui, expressed his deep gratitude for the program.

“We were particularly impressed by the quality of the program you organized for us. The visits to the Cereal Canada facilities and the meetings with various stakeholders in the Canadian cereal sector allowed us to better understand the workings of your market and to appreciate the quality of the products you export. These exchanges were also an opportunity to forge valuable connections with our Canadian counterparts. We are convinced that these relationships will be mutually beneficial for our two industries.”

He concluded his message by saying, “We are proud of the relationship we have with Cereal Canada and look forward to continuing it in the future.”

Cereals Canada remains committed to maintaining and further developing relationships with customers of Canadian wheat, including the National Federation of Milling in Morocco, to ensure that the quality of Canadian durum continues to meet their highest standards and expectations.

Looking to the future, Cereals Canada has launched the vision of the Global Agriculture Technology Exchange (Gate). Gate is a bold concept being purposefully designed to help our industry grow and thrive in international markets. Learn more at gate-canada.ca.
