Gate: Securing the Future of Canadian Cereals

For over half a century, Cereals Canada has been the cornerstone of the Canadian cereals industry, providing critical support to farmers, researchers, and global customers. However, as we approach 2027, we face a significant challenge: the expiration of our long-term lease which threatens to disrupt the vital services we provide to our members, the entire cereals value chain, and our domestic and global customers.

Enter Gate—the Global Agriculture Technology Exchange. This visionary, purpose-built facility isn’t just a new office space for Cereals Canada; it’s a bold investment in the future of Canadian agriculture. By securing support from governments and stakeholders across the entire value chain, Gate can realize its long-term vision, benefiting generations to come.

Designed and equipped to enhance the unique services that Cereals Canada offers, Gate will provide:

1. Specialized Technical Areas: Gate will feature state-of-the-art technical areas, including analytical labs and pilot processing and research facilities. Staffed with experts to provide customer support for our diverse markets, these spaces are crucial for maintaining Canada’s edge in the global cereals market.

2. Space for Member-Focused Programming: Programs like Combine to Customer, which have been instrumental in connecting growers with customer needs, while offering a unique opportunity for learning, dialogue, and engagement. Gate will allow us to expand and enhance these vital connections.

3. Opportunities for Industry Collaboration: Gate will serve as a hub for the entire cereals value chain. From confidential industry projects to international customer visits, the facility will foster the collaborations that drive innovation and market growth.

4. A Centre for Market Access and Advocacy: With dedicated spaces for continued market access work and advocacy initiatives, Gate will strengthen Cereals Canada’s ability to monitor and address trade issues, ensuring Canadian cereals maintain their global competitiveness.

5. Research and Development Facilities: Gate will house cutting-edge research facilities, supporting the quality testing of new varieties and technologies that keep high-quality Canadian cereals at the forefront of global markets for traditional and future food innovation. Opportunities for collaboration will allow us to expand our research and development of blended products.

Securing the Future

Representing the wheat, barley and oat value chain in Canada, Cereals Canada’s merger with the Canadian International Grains Institute in 2020 has already expanded our capabilities. Gate will build on this foundation, providing a world-class facility to showcase Canadian innovation and quality to domestic and international customers.

As we look to the future, Gate represents a commitment to our members, to the Canadian cereals industry, and to our global customers, and it’s an investment in the continued success of Canadian agriculture on the world stage. Gate goes beyond preserving our ability to serve our members. Gate will enhance our services, ensuring that Canadian cereals remain synonymous with quality, innovation, and reliability for generations to come.
